A good gathering has enough structure to remove awkwardness and enough space to let people enjoy one another. Hosts need a running order more than they need theatrical authority. Food and drink remain optional, allergies deserve direct questions, and alcohol never serves as the price of admission. The evening should be memorable for the company, not the logistics report.
